Old wallet not syncing
« on: August 13, 2017, 05:12:46 pm »
Lavajumper (or whoever can help),
I have an old wallet (v0.6.4.6-unk) that contains most of my coins.  I recently set up a new wallet (latest version from GitHub) on a different machine and am in the process of transferring my coins to the new wallet.

On Friday 8/11, I "sent" 50,000 coins to my new wallet.  The new wallet is up-to-date, but has not "received" the coins so I went back to the old wallet to make sure they were sent.  According to the transactions window they were, but now that old wallet won't sync with the network.  It seems stuck with 122210 blocks remaining.

If I look in the Debug logfile I see a bunch of the following messages:
************************
EXCEPTION: 11DbException
Db::del: Cannot allocate memory

I'm not really sure what question I need to ask.  Do I need to solve the sync problem in my old wallet before Friday's transfer will show up in my new wallet?  Is there a better easier way to transfer coins?  If I need to solve the sync problem, what do I need to do to get that accomplished?

Thanks in advance.

John

Edit:  Not sure this is important, but I sent a 50,000 coin transaction on 8/4 that went through just fine.

The 'wallet.dat' file has everything a client needs to rebuild your transactions. These can be swapped out at will, it just takes time for the rescan process to finish. The easiest way to do this is to replace the 'wallet.dat' file in the new installation with the one from the old. The client 'looks' for wallet.dat and makes whatever file is there its live wallet.

Make backup copies of both wallet.dat files, with names that allow you to easily identify which one's they are, before doing anything.

If your new installation doesn't have coins in it yet, then its fairly simple.

  • Shut down your client
  • Copy the old wallet.dat overtop of the new wallet.dat
  • Restart the client.

It will initiate a 'rescan' which can take a while. When its done it will show your coins.

If you already have coins in the new wallet:

  • Get an address from the new wallet so you can copy/paste it. I use notepad++ as a scratch pad.
  • Shut down your 0.10.4.0 client
  • make a backup copy of wallet.dat ( call it wallet.dat.new or something that makes sense to you.
  • make a backup copy of the wallet.dat from 0.6.4.6 ( call it wallet.dat.old )
  • Copy wallet.dat.old over wallet.dat in 0.10.4.0 installation, naming it wallet.dat
  • Start the client... let it rescan.
  • send the coins to the address that you got from the new wallet
  • wait for 1 confirm
  • shut down the client
  • copy wallet.dat.new over wallet.dat in 0.10.4.0 installation, naming it wallet.dat
  • Start the client and let it rescan
  • Your coins are now in the new wallet.

Another option is to dump the private keys from the old wallet, then import them to the new wallet.

EDIT: for clarity

Awesome.  There are coins in the new wallet, but I understand now.  I can have a single installation of the wallet software and simply swap out wallet.dat files to access whichever wallet I need.  I take it the format of the wallet.dat file has not change and no "conversion" is necessary from one version to the next.

Thank you.

You've got the idea.
No, there's no conversion on the wallet.

I would get the client from an official source. https://sexcoin.info
Please let us know what site you downloaded that client from.
