Sexcoin for dummies
« on: June 02, 2015, 12:45:08 AM »
I started a little contest on a fetish board (100 SXC per round) to make people familiar with sexcoin and there is a lot of interest, but most people have not the slightest glue about crypto coins. First thing I had to explain that it works not like paypal and they don't have to register somewhere.

So, it would be great if somebody could write a “Sexcoin for Dummies” guide and post it here. Don't forget, and this might shock you, most Windows users already are at their limit with unpacking a zip so a step by step guide how to install the wallet is needed.

Thinking about it, a installer for the Windows QT (including a conf  with up to date nodes)  would be a great help.

Instead of an up to date conf file, why not a return to base bit of code that asks a specific website or file on a web site for the most up to date conf file, or even has a hard wired place to start it's search and then there's an hour by hour up date of the wallets around you.

How does the Torrents work out where the other players are?

I've got a lot to say on this, all good. But quickly, the DNS   seeder code that sxcer  adapted solves the node finding problem.  Instead of listing individual nodes in the sexcoin.conf  you list the seeder names, which point you to confirm ed  active nodes. I'm on a tablet right now and will post more when I get to a keyboard.

A little bit more now that I can type......

I'm going to get a newbie guide together for here, and I'm thinking a wiki site would also help. IF anyone wants to do the newbie guide, please go ahead and write it out. I'm trying to concentrate on the android app right now. I have an installer for the QT app, but it has a couple of bugs that I never got around to fixing. I'm going to post that code in my github in the hopes that someone can put the polish on it. If no one does, then it can be bumped up in priority.

I'm almost certain the current client can take advantage of the dnsseeders. The seeders work quite well, and can be coded into the QT client, and the android client ( which they are ). This will negate the need for having to screw around with the .conf file unless you want to do some other tricks.

One other change I'm going to make to the android client after I get past this KGW crap is the option to set the dnsseeders, just in case they change.

With the combination of the qt installer and the dnsseeds, I think that will solve one newbie hurdle. Also, this all is long overdue. I seem to recall that we were planning on releasing the 'ng' build packaged with the installer, which is one of the reasons I never circled back around and cleaned it up.

Looks like its time for another roadmap.

While not full thing here is a handy tip for windows installs. If you want all the sexcoin stuff in on folder (like wallet.dat and blockchain) then make a bat file and put

Code: [Select]
sexcoin.exe -datadir=%~dp0
Then run your wallet by using that bat file and you can keep it all on a usb stick or whatever folder its in!

Yeh, I had another look at that link I posted to the WDC How to run a wallet off a USB device and although it reads fairly brain dead, it's just cut and pasted the unzipped files and the wallet data files into the same folder and run via the above command.  Even if a person had just one PC they could run multiple wallets using the above.

For information, on the Sexcoin Wiki Installation page,
the Ubuntu installation links are inverted.
