wallet.dat restore and sexcoin.conf nodes
« on: March 06, 2016, 07:00:38 pm »
Hello there,

I've a couple of questions:

I need to restore a backup of a wallet.dat from coins I mined/bought some time ago, the thing is I did the backup from an OSX client, that Macbook died.

Now I installed Sexcoin Wallet in Windows 7 and syncing the blockchain.

I've found wallet.dat on windows under C:\Users\win7\AppData\Roaming\Sexcoin

I tried to replace the windows wallet.dat with osx wallet.dat and SexCoin client returns a db error.

Now I returned windows wallet.dat and waiting for the blockchain to download.

Any workaround for this or each wallet.dat is OS specific?

One mor thing, where do I find sexcoin.conf to add more nodes to my client?

Not to sure what the problem is with the wallet.dat problem but .conf files do not come with wallets by default, you have to make your own in something like notepad.

Can you post a screenshot of the db error?

You can also manually add nodes to most wallets at the console using the addnode 123.456.789 add command (unless it's been disabled??)

Hey guys, thanks for your responses.

I think I'm working it out.

What I did (In case someone experiences the same problem):

Phase 1: Set up SXC Wallet in a clean environment.
  • - Download & Install Lubuntu in a VirtualBox VM with VBOX Extensions
    - Download & Install SexCoin Wallet for Linux.
    - Open SXC Wallet and wait for the blockchain to download.

Phase 2: OSX Wallet.dat Recovery
- In OSX drive: Make a backup of your wallet.dat from /Users/myuser/Library/Application Support/Sexcoin
- In Linux drive: Copy OSX wallet.dat to Linux SexCoin directory: /home/youruser/.sexcoin

Phase 3: Open Linux Wallet
- Your coins should be there as Unconfirmed transaction
- Wait for the blockchain to download again.

I don't know why the blokchain is downloading again but I don't mind.
Transactions are getting confirmed.

As for the addnode command. I tried it but got the following error:

Welcome to the Sexcoin RPC console.
Use up and down arrows to navigate history, and Ctrl-L to clear screen.
Type help for an overview of available commands.

addnode 123.456.789 add

{"code":-32601,"message":"Method not found"}

- The method worked OK
All synced up and running smoothly in Lubuntu, glad to be back on track.  8)
